Welcome to the Fall semester!

Hello fellow students!

By now you've had a chance to get a taste of what your semester will be like. We hope your year is off to a good start! We also hope you all had a chance to enjoy the pizza party and the annual Fall Picnic sponsored by the Student Association (SA) and the Campus Activities Board (CAB).

Please take a moment to learn how we make decisions that will impact your time and your wallet throughout the year.

The Student Association:

For those of you who aren't aware, SA is the students' representation at UWFox. This is our blog, which is new this year. We will use it to solicit feedback from you regarding issues that will affect all students.

Some include:
  • Working with Food Service Incorporated to get the food quality/quantity to price ratio under control for students.
  • Finding a workable solution to high textbook prices and low buy-back rates.
  • The blog will also be used when new issues come up such as the smoking ban on campus, or the campus housing that is proposed.
Your feedback is valuable and if there is enough feedback, the powers that be have no choice but to notice.

More About Us:
We are a student run organization with the authority to make decisions regarding student dollars called "segregated fees", which are included in the tuition you pay (this year's rate is $131.90 per student, totaling approximately $225,000) to provide a quality experience for the student body (that includes YOU!).

We are always trying to improve campus functions to suit the needs of all students; we provide funding for clubs and student organizations to operate. We also advocate for student rights, work to improve the campus experience for Adult Non-traditional students, etc. Essentially, we represent all students by listening to what you want, need and don't like, to decide how we can set and accomplish goals based on those needs.

Anyone can be a part of SA; you or the guy from class who is always complaining about campus policy, prices, curriculum, etc. We encourage students to join so they can be a part of solving an array of problems, meet people, develop leadership skills, build an impressive resume... There are so many benefits to being a part of SA!

Senator responsibilities include: coming to the weekly 45 minute meeting to discuss and vote on important issues and bills. Above that, it is the choice of each member to be as active as they want to be. Executive Board members (President, Treasurer, Communications Director, and Executive Director) have more responsibility, and are paid for the responsibility they take on.

This Semester...
We have been gearing up for one of the most productive years this campus has ever seen. We are gaining leverage and YOU can be a part of it. If you are a mover and a shaker, if you see things that you think can be changed, if you want to earn the respect of your professors and classmates, then you are meant for student leadership in SA!

Meetings are every Tuesday at 12:05 in room 1346 and are always open to EVERYONE.

Not everyone has time or the desire to be an active member of SA, however, being a part of our blog is something that takes a small amount of time and has a large impact. Please leave us a comment or suggestion, we can only make things better if we know what you want!

We are the student voice, join us and make our voice louder!

Best wishes this semester!

-Jesse
